Our lesson today used data tables and connected them to the skill of working with decimals. We also looked at kilometers and meters as part of our measurement systems.

Our lesson today used data tables and connected them to the skill of working with decimals. We also looked at kilometers and meters as part of our measurement systems.

Our notes below compared how to add and multiply decimals. In class we noticed how these skills are similar and different and wondered why.

Today we explored the steps for multiplying decimals using the standard algorithm. We also compared it to the partial products method.

Our notes today show two different methods of multiplying decimals. First we estimated our product and represented the estimate in an area model. Next we solved for our product using the standard algorithm and the partial products methods.

Our lesson today looked at how to use the standard algorithm (or shortcut) to multiply decimals. Here are the steps!

Today we continued with looking at different ways of representing decimal multiplication in diagrams and concrete models. Below is a copy of our notes and exit ticket.

Today’s lesson explored how to represent and solve multiplication of decimals in different ways.

Today we started on Unit 8 in which we learn how to represent and solve multiplication of decimals up to the hundredths place. The pictures below show our introductory notes and our objectives.
